Royal Star
6/4/14
A day of refuge is what it boiled down to: a few yellowtail, the lock jawed bastards gave us fits all day looking at spot after spot for virtually no reaction, and a few variety fish to go with a bounty of epic scenery and flat calm, balmy conditions.
No so much on the outside though. It has been, and will continue to be through mid day Saturday, a rugged stretch of breezy conditions on the offshore grounds, especially distant offshore where the long range fleet typically roams. There is no way to overcome the present nautical conditions other than to wait and try to make something, anything, happen in the interim. Mother Nature is flexing her muscles at present. Knowing where we stand in the pecking order we are not looking to press the issue.
Forging into day six however we are going to take a stab at the offshore scene tomorrow; time to roll up our sleeves and evaluate conditions. It promises to be a sporty adventure but nothing we haven't seen plenty of times in the past. Photo today features Royal Star angler Alex Earp living the dream at Alijos Rocks.
