Royal Star
7/17/13
Scratching, kicking, and clawing our way along today as a wealth of yellowtail proved reluctant to come aboard.
There were bright moments to be had, especially for the hardcore yo-yo anglers, but there was a lot more fishing
than catching to be sure. It was a valiant effort, but one we came away from thrashed and chastened.
Without a doubt, after fishing in a wind tunnel the majority of the day, the finest moments occurred in the late
afternoon as paradise was found. No wind, birds and bait for miles, the sea erupted into a classic coastal Baja
maelstrom when an area of premium yellows joined the fracas. Between the flat calm, the incredible visuals, and the
handful of trophy yellows we extracted during the show it set the tone right for a beautiful evening of anchored
tranquility.
Effectively pinned down by rugged weather on the outside we are stationary for the present, and thankful of it.
Tomorrow is a new day. Our shared photo features Co-Charter Master and long time Royal Star veteran Steve Pairish
with Captain Brian Sims hoisting Steve's forty pound class yellowtail.
