Royal Star
3/19/13
A couple more images of the scenic variety provided by Toke Aw featuring Royal Star and the always mesmeric Clipperton topography; the idyllic tropical atoll has a beckoning quality from afar that calls to soul. Of course reality is very different - the birds, crabs, tropical heat and humidity, and incessant cacophony of competing and complaining boobie birds transform the perceived haven into something very different once on shore. But the unique setting, strange and surreal, is still enchanting, and well worth a visit.
This idea actually delivers the overall reality of Clipperton island with succinct effect. As good as it is, as it can be, is as strong as the exact opposite when the place is out of sorts. It is the ultimate ying and yang setting dynamic perhaps to a fault. There is a luck factor in the equation big time when venturing a long haul south to Clipperton. And that of course, just like every extreme feature of the overall Clipperton experience, is what separates an adventure to the remote atoll from everything else; high risk equals high reward - or not.
