12/13/12

Another fine day of steady picking at 70 - 125's with an occasional 140 - 150 in the mix; and a more than
occasional 40 - 60# that we released. Like yesterday the tuna action was supplemented by marauding Wahoo that
spiced things up with their unpredictable antics. Three or four different times beautiful, 40 - 60# grade
skinnies flew from the water within a yard or two from the hull to the delight of the angler fortunate enough
to have his bait in the right place at the right time. It was a great diversion from the steady tuna fishing
adding to the variety list in the best possible way.

Still the question is where are the jumbos? Where are the cows we saw sign of all last trip? Not far is the
likely answer. But not far around these precincts means almost endless possibilities. We still have a few
ideas left, "Old Lucky" Toussaint is not done by a long shot. But time is definitely running short if we are
to make it happen in any big kind of way. Right now, cows or not, this is great fishing.

In time the larger grade fish will move back in. That is a fact that anglers on upcoming voyages can take to
the bank. Meanwhile we'll just have to suffer through very good action on these 70 - 160's, and a few handfuls
of beautiful Wahoo, with grace. I say this jokingly of course. For as many occasions out here that we - all of
us - would give just about anything for the fishing we are enjoying right now, we're in no position to
seriously gripe. It's just the nature of fisherman to always want something, the next thing, better.

Photo for the day features long time Royal Star veteran Tommy Nishi with his biggest yellowfin of the day
estimated at 170#. Can you imagine catching this beauty and being disappointed by it's size; or lack
thereof?Neither can I.
