Royal Star
10/13/12
An affront to our effort today as we caught close to nothing; crap weather and a long ride
endured for very little. That's fishing. And still I love it. Even in the tough rounds it
is worthy - an intrigue that brings pressure to bear on wit and mettle. Whether on deck or
the "puente" true character, true colors are exposed by whatever the ocean dispenses.
In this respect I can only express my admiration for this group of anglers who have
displayed the rewards of their prior long range voyages with exceptional wisdom. All good
things in time; day three of ten with nothing in the hatch to show for the effort is far
from a panic situation; unsettling perhaps, but not to the point of nail biting concern.
These veterans, along with the few novice anglers we are so pleased to accommodate, are
having a fine go of it; especially in light of the fact that the weather broke by late
afternoon.
As the cruise to somewhere continued the wind abated, the seas went near flat calm, and
spirits were simultaneously produced and elevated; a good time was made in gratitude of the
weather change alone. It is amazing how a little rock and roll diminished is so incredibly
pleasing. To deem it a slice of heaven is not going too far. It just may be.
Enough of that though. It is now time to quit fumbling around and get some fish. Catching
is what we are after, justice; quenching, ridiculous action to satisfy compounding blood
lust sequestered during the past few days. We are not merciful right now. Suffice to say
that whatever we find will bear the brunt of our ability unleashed. And it will happen.
Photo today features one of two bright moments for Royal Star angler Jim Laret who enjoyed
a double on the skinnines to illuminate his, and our, morning.
