Royal Star
9/01/12
A fine day as we again head for points south preparing to shoulder a little bump and jump on the outside
as the remnants of a tropical cyclone far below, swell from wind to the northwest, a long interval swell
from the south southwest, and a stiff local breeze combine for a classic example of the "washing machine"
effect. The good news is that the breeze is only supposed to be around for one more day and the southerly
swell is rapidly subsiding; in no time we should be back to September conditions that are typically
benign.
On the fishing front we depart on another of our favorite length of voyage for this time of year with a
solid group of Royal Star veterans long accustomed to fishing with us over the labor day weekend and
beyond. At seven days in length these long range adventures offer access to the best of every possible
opportunity. Ample time to make a distant run south when necessary and ample time to fish above to our
heart's content have identified these trips as perfect in all respects. The catches made over the past
several seasons have certainly supported this notion but the smiles and satisfaction of our anglers are
the more convincing testimony.
Captain Randy Toussaint and I are both on board for this run combining our efforts to make a catch and
extend our warmest welcome to this fine group of anglers. Prospects are again very encouraging with signs
of offshore tuna and plenty of variety seemingly settled in. Photo for the day features one last proud
father shot of the summer as my son Duke soon resumes his scholarly education. He joined us during the
last voyage keeping the atmosphere lively and light while honing his future deck skills. Of course he
threw in a little fishing too catching a few like the fine yellowfin in today's selection "all by
himself".
