8/30/12

Naturally the two days prior success only served to raise the bar, to set a new objective, perhaps a
little far reaching, for the zone we planned to traverse. I mention this from the perspective of
motivation, not as a negative; as an example of our insatiable drive to advance, improve, and deliver.

Quality Bluefin tuna were the quarry and by any standard an illusive, moving target during the prior
couple of weeks in the lower zone. While we didn't load up we did produce a worthy opportunity for all
from an early morning drift that ended up lasting over two hours. Beautiful weather made every crashing
fish, every big boil on the outside so poignant, as anglers eagerly worked to entice the finicky, fickle
queen of the tunas. The results were worthy, the effort worthwhile; every one of the 25 ridiculously fat
30 - 45# Bluefin are prizes appreciated on so many levels, not the least of which is around the dinner
table.

Thus began our day on a note of success and the trend continued albeit in measured proportions. Short
stops were the order of the day thereafter producing yellowfin tuna in the incredibly broad size range of
10 - 55 pounds. The mixed sizes meant plenty of releasing as we culled the catch "high grading" a very
respectable total by days end.

Beautiful weather and overall conditions are expected to continue providing ample reason for optimism
approaching our final day of fishing tomorrow. One more good shot at these quality offshore tuna and our
voyage will be complete. We are ready.

Photos for the day feature long time Royal Star veteran Terry Uchida who scored big today in both the
bluefin and yellowfin categories landing 45 and 55 pound models respectively. As an example of the
incredible offshore potential during this 2012 summer season I can not produce a better example. This is
good fishing; the best we have seen in many years by a wide margin.
