Royal Star

8/7/12

Another fine day of offshore angling, our best yet so far, that again featured variety but
was high lighted by 30 - 48# yellowfin tuna. A big morning hit followed by a few fruitless
hours led to a great afternoon. The forecasted flat calm did indeed arrive and with it, to
no one's surprise, came even better sign and far more cooperative fish. It is a good set up
at present, and we are thankful for it.

Not wishing to miss a minute of this excellent tuna fishing we are all in for another day.
Continuing flat calm is forecast from now through the weekend boding well for both us and
shorter voyages to come. I wouldn't call this a slam dunk out here by any means but between
the kelps and the good probability of finding cooperative tuna it wouldn't be a bad time to
jump on a shorter voyage if one has the time.

Photos for the day feature Royal Star angler Greg Moss and Captain Brian Sims both mighty
pleased with the quality of this, and several other, fat yellowfin landed today. Photo
number two features my son Duke with the uncontested amazing catch of the day. Out of the
blue, amidst a stop on straight yellowfin tuna, Duke hooked this huge, 40# dorado. After an
epic 15 minute battle using his trusted Shimano Trinidad 14A he landed this beast against
considerable odds. Amazing; a priceless moment to be sure.

Needless to say I have to extend my most sincere gratitude to Craig and the entire Humboldt
group for allowing Duke to join their adventure. It produced a memory of a lifetime for the
little guy, and his Dad.
