It has been a long while since we have seen this type of offshore fishing. Among a stretch that spanned
over forty miles by day's end one stood a good chance of finding the right spot of either 30 - 40#
yellowfin, 15 - 100# Bluefin, 18 - 25# yellowtail, 5 - 20# dorado, or any combination of, or all, of the
listed species. I wouldn't quite call it "super market" fishing yet, the vast majority of what all of us
found today was a little reluctant to get it on to the degree that we would like, but it is definitely on
the verge.

The main thing of course is the quality of both the fish themselves as well as the opportunity. No matter
what length of a trip one is on at present this is the place to be. Variety, quality, and quantity - long
range fishing at it's finest. And just about all of it is now within reach of 1 1/2 day voyages. Once we
push past this post full moon/sloppy weather induced slight malaise I suspect that there will be some
hearty scores more consistent with what we are seeing.

But, despite my impatience with the fish for not displaying suicidal tendencies, we had another fine day
of offshore angling piecing together a very nice catch featuring all of the above listed species. No big
Bluefin yet but that appears to be a simple matter of location; back to the super market reference above.
A good shot on the bigger yellowfin, a morning ripper on dandy offshore yellowtail, a few afternoon shots
at school size Bluefin, and the odd single and handful of dorado throughout the day made for a good time.

As a significant improvement in the weather is forecast for tomorrow and beyond we couldn't tear
ourselves away from this potential. A little here and a little there is adding up, the quality is superb,
and spirits are high. That proverbial gold ring, in the form of some kind of ripper on this quality
yellowfin and/or Bluefin, is seemingly within reach. Photo today features Craig Heberer to whom all of us
owe a debt of gratitude for spearheading this tremendously successful charter eleven years running. He is
the man. And, as the photo denotes, an exceptional fisherman as well.

But as the saying goes behind every successful man is a good woman. Craig's wife Teresa deserves
honorable mention and gratitude as well for graciously hostessing the annual pre voyage celebration that
occasionally manifests the "Lumberjack" side of the angling participants. Thanks Teresa from all of the
now fully revived, blissfully content seafarers.
