Royal Star
06/16/12
Today our weather was even better. It was one of those days we as anglers hope for; greasy, flat calm conditions - perfect for looking. And with two days of yellowtail limits in the RSW tank we did some looking concentrating on bluefin tuna. We saw small dabs throughout the morning and scratched a few fish from them. In the afternoon we were right in the middle of the fish as they came up. We got a good look at how much fish is in this area. We also managed to put some more in our RSW tank. It wasn't great catching, they were very reluctant to bite, but occasionally a good bait on 30# line would elicit an opportunity. We will return tomorrow morning at 0715 after a very sucessful 2.5 day trip with around 300 mixed fish. Tim will be at the helm for the next 7 day adventure.
As an example of the potential these 2 1/2 day voyages offer I cannot think of a better scenario. Upon departure there were no fish to head for or anything certain on the outside. The results of the trip are the classic case of why it is so crucial to take the plunge sometimes and just go fishing. Fifty some odd fat bluefin and at least couple of hundred yellowtail are a prize in today's times both worthy and tasty. We still have rapidly diminishing space on both the June 24th - 27th and June 27 - June 30th 2 1/2 day runs that are absolutely perfect based on the present signs offshore that only promise to improve. Give Tracy a call in the office to take advantage of the only oportunity to fish Royal Star on one of these "mini" long range runs this season.
Our photo today shows Royal Star angler Rob Kelber doing what he is so good at - pulling on fish. Also notice the gorgeous, flat calm conditions in the background - pure glory!
