Though not pictured wearing his signature green jacket here, Floyd Abbot is easily recognized sporting this trademark. Far more compelling is Floyd's warm character present in every aspect of his significant time spent on Royal Star. We are lucky to have him, and his wife Jan and extended family, fishing with us on Royal Star. As default ambassadors we could not be more fortunate. Floyd in particular personifies every quality one could hope for when sharing the rail with one and all during a long range voyage.
Always collected, never excitable, cool as the day is long, and ready to extract the levity and laugh in any situation. That is how I know Floyd. He is far from boisterous however. One has to pay close attention to recognize how accurate Floyd's comments and observations relate current events. To make a friend could not be more effortless though. If one is up for a glass of wine and some good yarning at day's end they will find Floyd lined up at the galley entrance with the welcome mat rolled out.
As we are a fishing boat I suppose it should be mentioned that in addition to the personal qualities Floyd exhibits he is an accomplished angler who always seems to get his shot. He makes it happen. He is never one of those anglers who stands out when the fishing is taking place. But when the day is done it almost always works out that Floyd lands his 275, 253, 260, or better. It is not by luck or coincidence. It can't be after witnessing the outcome on so many occasions during the past seventeen years on Royal Star.
Our February "Angler of the Month" recognition is gratefully extended to Floyd Abbot who we look forward to sharing the rail of Royal Star with for many voyages to come. If you are fortunate enough to fish with Floyd remember that to him his "ultra" veteran status designates him a friend to all. A better man who enjoys good times long range fishing cannot be found.
