Royal Star Fish Report

10-11-2010
Royal Star

A fitting end as flat calm conditions prevailed above the dreaded hell stretch north of Isla Cedros. Instead of bumping and banging our way north we all enjoyed the gentle motion of a small, long interval north west swell with zero seas generated by the lack of wind. It was heavenly. I can't say the cactus expedition worked out too well however as conditions were unfavorable for the tasty devils to cooperate. Believe it or not cods are equally influenced by conditions as their brethren fishes. With zero movement in the form of current or wind we accomplished very little. Honestly though we were far from distressed. As I stated we were not banking the success of the voyage on today's results. Thank goodness.

So we roll up with intentions of shutting down Royal Star until departure on Saturday, October 16th. The next seven day departs for Alijos Rocks and possibly the ridge, where fishing for tuna and yellowtail is epic, with a fantastic group of anglers ready to fish. The voyage is sponsored by Baja Fish Gear and does have space available at present. For a quick getaway the Saturday to Saturday line up is perfect. Fishing with Ed, Sam, and the boys from Baja Fish Gear is always a bonus as they bring knowledge, experience, and personality to share. These guys are experts in every respect. Give Tracy a call if you can make it. Fishing prospects continue to be strong and consistent.

Otherwise we will be dockside for three days tending to a few small projects in preparation for the next round of voyages to come. Royal Star is running great and we aim to keep it that way. On the closing note we want to thank this group of anglers for making this voyage a success year after year. A successful long range trip is the result of good fishing, a well run operation, and anglers who share the goal of enjoying their vacation to the fullest. Much credit is deserved by the anglers themselves for making a good time of whatever comes along. We always appreciate our customers who understand and apply this notion to the benefit of everyone.

Also, much appreciation to Shimano for their sponsorship on this annual ten day voyage. Between the incredible prizes provided for a raffle, and equipment provided for use, Shimano's support makes this voyage a highly sought after choice for angler's making an October ten day. We will be running the annual Shimano ten day in 2011. If you are interested please call Tracy to make a reservation as space is already limited.

Our final voyage photo features a bona fide long range legend. Though the photo is taken from the back many anglers will recognize the signature "derby" of Frank Matsuhara as he pulls on a good one at Alijos. At eighty something years young Frank is absolutely tireless in his zeal for fishing running many a youngster into the ground with his methodical approach. He is incredible; as are his results. Thanks for all the years of good fishing Frank and the many more to come.
