Royal Star Fish Report

10-9-2010
Royal Star

Somewhat of a leisure day as we placed zero emphasis on quantity focusing rather on exotics and striped speedsters with our remaining time below. Of course true to my earlier prediction about fish seemingly everywhere once there is a catch in the hatch the yellowtail and 25 - 35# yellowfin were abundant and eager. For the most part we let them be retaining only a few handfuls of big bottom exotics that added depth and additional success to the variety list this voyage. This is a good one in every respect.

From the fishing perspective tomorrow will be the true day of relaxation and fun as we gain altitude while poking along the coast targeting a few fish for the griddle, catch and release, and perhaps for the hatch if they enter the exceptional category. Regardless of the fishing results after two days of bumpy sea conditions offshore I suspect the coastal flat calm will be welcomed by a relieved majority. I will be among them.

On another note it sounds like the Alijos tuna took a semi breather two days prior then came on strong again yesterday for everyone there. Very good fishing, very good size average, and very good sign of fish with the guys spread out over a couple of miles and all accumulating exceptional scores. Reports were a little dicey a couple of days back but more than anything I feel the shift was precipitated by the significant change in the weather. It appears now that the fish adjusted and are back on the program. Game on.

Another couples shot for our photo today that I pulled from the Alijos action a couple of days back. Bruce and Eunice Chisholm receive the honors that actually in our opinion are reversed. We receive the honor. The honor being time spent with such a fantastic couple that share the deck with all of us in the highest spirits enjoying every aspect of their long range voyages together. As veterans of long range adventures going back to the days long before two speeds and miracle category tackle innovations, Bruce and Eunice have an appreciation for this fishery special and contagious. Likewise we have an appreciation for their company on Royal Star that brightens the occasion in every setting.
