Royal Star
This was the day we have been aiming for. By about 1200 production boiled down to pure horsepower as anglers began to relax and take extended breaks from the non- stop action that continued for five straight hours. Following a scratchy start it became one of those days when anglers could cast a bait of their choice and confidently know they were going to hook a 60 to 75# tuna or 25# yellowtail. As the day wound down so did the majority of anglers but for a handful of diehards who supported the rail to the final round. We still managed to scratch following the big mid day push, but most anglers were either exhausted or sated content to enjoy the epic sunset with highball in hand rather than fishing rod. It was a fitting end to a fantastic day of fishing for quality yellowfin tuna and yellowtail at Alijos.
With little reason to depart due to strategic timing, we will give these anglers one final shot at the larger grade tuna before working east in favor of variety and ridge classics. We are presently in the coveted position every Captain seeks. With a beautiful load of fish already in the RSW tanks, we are in perfect position to poke around and spot fish for exotics less the crushing strain of large scale production. This is exactly where we were hoping to be.
Photo today features angling couple Steve Alexander and Cathy Preis enjoying a premier angling moment. Alijos rocks, flat calm, reefing on quality yellowfin tuna side by side with your sweetheart - pretty much a perfect scenario from my perspective.
