Royal Star Fish Report

Royal Star

Well I haven't mentioned Fisherman's Processing in a while as we took our first three months to create and streamline systems, and devise the most efficient, convenient service for long range anglers. Though we did work through a few bumps and minor hurdles, as was expected, none represented significant set backs for our customers, or our ultimate objective of improving turn times of same day orders. Now in particular, Sean and the processing crew back at the facility have their routine established, and turn customers product with record speed. This is exactly what we set out to accomplish. Long range anglers now have more choice for the processing of their catch. And, on the big days when multiple vessels arrive, the catches are distributed among the processors. This translates into better service and vastly improved turn times on same day processing orders for everyone.

In the case of Royal Star yesterday was an exemplary unloading that perfectly demonstrated the efficiency of our new system. With processing orders completed prior to arrival, anglers disembarked with their equipment immediately upon return. As soon as the gear and anglers were clear, the boat was moved into unloading position and we began pitching off the catch. This entire process was completed in fifteen minutes! I'm not stretching the facts in the slightest. Fifteen minutes following our arrival, fish were flying off the boat into the totes with seawater and ice queued along the pier. Unloading was completed, and the first totes of fish designated for same day processing were on their way to the facility forty five minutes following our arrival. Forty five minutes! Prior to this season, there were many times when the first fish didn't even come off the boat for forty five minutes!

Yesterday's unloading is exactly what we envisioned in the development of Fisherman's Processing. All of the time saved by streamlining our arrival and unloading routine translates into faster turn times for same day customers, and far less time at the dock for everyone on arrival mornings. Anglers with complete processing orders designated for later pick up or shipping simply grab their equipment, load up their vehicles, and head up the road - no cart pushing, no sorting, no waiting. This alleviates congestion along the waterfront and, of paramount importance to arriving anglers, opens coveted parking spaces in the landing lot in short order; every customer wins. Although I hestitate to call anything perfect, we've taken a quantam leap in the right direction.

Needless to say we are unbelievably pleased with the tremendous positive impact Fisherman's Processing has had on our business, and the long range sport fishery in general. Our perpetual objective of advancing the long range fishery to the benefit of all customers has been met in every respect with the introduction of Fisherman' Processing. Now, on to the next idea...

We departed on our annual Jason Hammond six day adventure with a light group ready to take full advantage of this spectacular opportunity to enjoy fishing Royal Star with an "ultra limited" status. With a bunch of seasoned veterans, and a few newcomers to the fishery, we are beyond prepared to have a fantastic time. Everything is in perfect order as we head south gathering details to set up our first move. Several attractive options await as we cover ground toward the promised land. Enjoy the new week!
