Personal Gear
The following list of gear will help our passengers prepare for their trip.
It is by no means a complete list - and some may consider it to be more than
needed. A big part of the service we offer is to make sure our passengers
are as prepared as possible. Of course, if you have any questions, please
feel free to call us. We're standing by to assist you in planning for
your long-range adventure.
DUFFEL BAGS |
Considered best for storage |
PANTS |
Bring a change for each day. Light material is preferred
so they can dry quickly. |
SHIRTS |
Bring a change for each day. If you are sun
sensitive, long sleeves would be in order. |
SOCKS |
Definitely bring a pair for every day - plus EXTRA |
SHORTS |
For those hot sultry days to sunbathe and keep cool |
LIGHT JACKET |
For those cool nights fishing bait |
SNEAKERS |
Bring two pair so you'll always have a dry spare |
RUBBER BOOTS |
One pair of short, comfortable boots |
HATS |
Wide brim, baseball caps, etc. |
LIGHT RAIN GEAR |
Very seldom used, but appreciated when needed |
SUNGLASSES |
Polarized to cut the glare. Security steps are also
recommended to prevent loss over the side |
TOILETRIES |
Bath towels, shampoo, soap, razor, toothbrush, toothpaste,
etc. Staterooms contain an electrical outlet for hair dryers,
electrical razors, etc. |
TOOLS |
Dikes, duck bill pliers, holder and belt, hook sharpener,
and hyseas mono crimper |
ROD BELTS |
A personal choice as to what is most comfortable for you |
HARNESS |
Should be the kidney belt type |
RUBBER GLOVES |
For handling your catch at the end of the trip |
CAMERA & FILM |
Make sure you have plenty of film and a good supply of
batteries. Video recorders are also welcome |
ENTERTAINMENT |
Use the travel time to catch up on that favorite book, or
that magazine article you wanted to read. We have a good selection
of VHS tapes, but you are more than welcome to bring along one or two to
share. Walkman cassette players often come in handy (again, make
sure you have a good supply of batteries) |
WRITING MATERIAL |
Notebook, stationary, pens and pencils for making notes on
what to bring next trip (and what to leave behind). Keep a daily journal
of the action. It will add to the photos. |
PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP |
A necessity on trips entering a port. Not necessary
for shorter trips. Acceptable documents include: passport, birth
certificates, voters registration card, military discharge papers. |
SEA SICK MEDICATION & REMEDIES |
Check with your physician for preferred method of
prevention. There are several over-the-counter products that are
very effective. Your local pharmacists would be another excellent
source for recommendations. |

Due to the unprecedented big tuna fishing on recent 10-day trips, Tim and I have a few suggestions. First, don't go overboard on buying gear or learning new connections. Second, avoid the short topshots and fluorocarbon as this fish has been biting very well. Third, if you have the following three rigs you will be fine. If you don't, call the office and we will arrange to have them for you. If you have extra gear, double up on rig #2.
#1
Calstar 765H or 760H
Penn or Shimano 2-speed 50
50-200 yard 80lb topshot with 130lb spectra backing
#2
Calstar 760H or XH
Penn or Shimano 2-speed 50W
50-200 yard 100lb topshot with 130lb spectra backing
#3
Calstar 760H or XH
Penn or Shimano 2-speed 50W or 80
25-100 yards 130 or 150lb topshot with 150-200lb spectra backing
These three suggestions are a general guideline, if you don't have the exact rigs try to match them with something comparable.
