Royal Star Fish Report

Well we're sure finding out who the fishermen are this season aren't we? Thus far the offshore fishing for albacore and bluefin tuna has offered many good days, and much opportunity, but one has to be on the ball and employ every ounce of fishing savvy they possess to consistently reap the rewards. Aside from maybe a day or two where just about anyone could bumble around and stumble into a biting school this has been the kind of fishing we live for as it heightens the level of everyone's game and propels those who are on it to the forefront. Even in the areas where the fish are showing the majority of catches have been made through an experienced understanding of ocean conditions and patterns as well as keen observation and expert sonar work. The old clich? about separating the men from the boys is clearly in effect. And believe me, the professionals are standing out and shining bright. My respect and admiration goes out to the guys who are making it happen. As I watch these different areas develop and the action unfolds I am genuinely proud to be among and working with a group of fishermen who are so proficient in their occupation. Individually and collectively we have been really been on our game. There has been a lot of incredible fishing as a result. For those anglers on upcoming voyages rest assured that there is more to come as we have never worked better and/or harder as a group to provide the best fishing opportunities out there. Overall the set up is very encouraging with a multitude of options in the long range zones. Mark my words - there is a tremendous amount of exceptional fishing yet to come.

That is not to say that there won't be up's and down's. Such cycles are inherent in fishing. And though painful to endure the inevitable slow days simply highlight and add dramatic contrast to those fantastic days of fishing we so appreciate. Fortunately, as a matter of record, the good days far outnumber the difficult. Maybe not for all but they most certainly do in the case of our group. Thank goodness for it.

So we depart this voyage with a huge sense of satisfaction as the boys returned yesterday with an epic five day voyage Captained by Royal Star co-owner Brian Sims. Phenomenal offshore albacore and bluefin tuna fishing, phenomenal island yellowtail action, five days of phenomenal, flat calm weather, and a beautiful load of professionally handled premium quality product stored in 29 degree refrigerated seawater. This latest voyage well defined our exceptional crew and what Royal Star is about.

Now it is time to move on however with the clock resetting upon departure of the Michael Doi seven day adventure with both Captain Randy Toussaint and I on board. Taking all things into account we are presently poised for the long haul heading south southeast while gathering information in the interim. As I stated there are presently many opportunities so while we are focused on Alijos to begin our voyage the strategy is not set in stone. Many of our colleagues are in search mode so if something compelling comes across the wire, or we find the mother lode while traveling south we will gladly hit the brakes and get to fishing. We will see. Look for reports to continue and get out there and do some fishing!
