Royal Star Fish Report

Royal Star

After a day offshore in very good conditions and good weather my assessment of the overall picture remains the same. Sadly however our day ended with paltry results in the hatch as the scattered fish were far from eager and definitely not yet ready to get with the program. A few merciful strikes and a few yellowtail saved our bacon but didn't spread nearly as far as we would have liked among this wonderful group of nineteen anglers. So be it. Fishing is fishing. Fortunately our backup plan of a fantastic, professional crew, top notch cuisine, and a beautiful fishing platform were in order and at the very least it was a good day to be out on the water. We're not under any illusions however. Anglers come fishing to catch fish. In that respect I have to report that this voyage was a disappointment; probably more to me than everyone else, but that is always the way of it. So back in to wait it out again which is probably a good thing in light of present offshore conditions. Don't let my current frustration dissuade you from venturing a voyage however. Regardless of our results today there are good scattered indications of albacore with a smattering of bluefin in the mix from 115 - 130 miles. Yesterday was simply an off day. I stick to my assessment and opinion that I offered two days prior. The day that one or more of the guys looking in and around this zone catch fifty to one hundred albacore is near. Based on what we observed I would not be surprised to hear it happen tomorrow. The stage is set. It is now just a matter of time. Let's hope that time comes sooner than later. Look for reports to continue throughout the week and resume from the grounds next weekend.
