My long, well known love affair with Clarion island continues. Actually it extends beyond Isla Clarion to include Roca Partida, Isla Socorro, and Isla San Benedicto, but I have a special thing going with Clarion that cannot be denied. May be I'm just kidding myself and all the amazing fishing I have been blessed to experience at Clarion is just coincidence. But I keep the fire kindled anyway as I have a high degree of confidence in the notion that genuine belief in itself can often times produce results.

With about five hundred fifty yellowfin tuna in the 50 - 90# class released over the past seven days, I woke up this morning grateful for our success but determined to do everything possible to avoid any tuna under 100 pounds unless motivated to fish them as a last resort. Again, I didn't and don't want to appear unappreciative, but what I was really hoping for was to put this group of hard working, incredibly deserving anglers in a position to fish for a trophy yellowfin as the final day reward for such an amazing effort toward the success of this project. Taking the previous three days results into account, we narrowed down our options to a particular zone and set forth to finish our voyage on a high note. The results above and another fourteen yellowfin tuna from 110 - 199 # speak to the effort. Call it good fortune, call it good fishing, call it good timing, or call it dumb luck, regardless we finished up on the high note that someone in my position spends many, many days and nights hoping for.

Obviously a very significant change in conditions occurred and thank goodness we were ready for them and firing on all cylinders. That's not to say that we didn't suffer our share of mini tragedies as several behemoths we lost to the same variety of reasons discussed earlier in the voyage. But every angler was fishing with the correct, impeccably prepared equipment and there were more victories than sob stories as a result. Following yesterday's results in particular special mention is appropriate for Blackwater fluorocarbon, Izorline, and Shimano Tiagra reels and Talus rods. All of these products performed to the highest standards we expect out here and are credited to the success of the majority of the battles fought and won. Amazing products producing phenomenal results. When you are purchasing equipment for your next long fishing adventure please consider this as gospel. There are many excellent products available but none that are more proven and reliable than those listed above. And this is not a sales pitch. I don't work or receive commissions from those manufacturers. I simply use the products, experience the jubilation and triumph when anglers prevail in these highly intense, epic battles, and report accordingly. I want to see anglers win and I know those products will not fail.

With the entire fishing portion of our voyage spent at one to three miles off the different islands, we are thankful for the legal access that the Revillagigedo tagging project has provided. In addition to forwarding the knowledge of yellowfin tuna and Wahoo movements and behaviors within and beyond this beautiful protected marine sanctuary, we are doing our best to portray an image of responsibility and respect for Mexico's laws and natural resources that we are wholly dependent on for our livelihood. It is something to think about. All of the anglers that have supported the Revillagigedo tagging project to date have done the entire San Diego Sport Fishing industry tremendous good by depicting our fishermen as stewards of Mexico's fisheries interested and invested in the future of the country's natural resources. Our industry has a lot at stake here and this project is stark recognition of this fact. Once again it is something to think about. There is a right way to do things and legally accessing the amazing Revillagigedo Marine Biosphere Reserve to capture, tag, and release yellowfin tuna and Wahoo within the six mile nucleus zone is to the advantage of everyone, every entity, every agency, every business, and every government involved. I ask everyone reading - past and future long range anglers, owners, captains, and business owners alike to thoughtfully consider this. Everyone involved in this project wins. Anglers who participate have experienced the most amazing fishing of their lives for four consecutive years with over two hundred fifty archival tags and almost three thousand five hundred conventional tags deployed in yellowfin tuna and Wahoo, the Inter-American Tropical Tuna commission and Mexico's Instituto Nacional de Pesca have obtained incredibly valuable data sets that have been highly instrumental in developing management strategies to protect and maintain the health of yellowfin tuna populations in the Eastern Tropical Pacific Ocean, and the San Diego Sport Fishing industry has received a severely needed boost to our image in Mexico as well. To all anglers who would like to fish the Revillagigedo Islands inside the six mile nucleus zone I sincerely hope you join us for the 2010/ 2011 Revillagigedo tagging voyages. You will be richly rewarded, supporting the fishery of your passion, and I promise you will not regret it. There is nothing like it..
