Well, Roca Partida was absolutely corroded with life as swarms of 5 - 20# yellowfin tuna and midget skipjack overran us every time we stopped the boat, but none of the signs we look for were present making for a short visit to the famed offshore pinnacle. Strangely, and similar to the February tagging voyage, almost no Wahoo were present with only a handful of the speedsters tagged and released. With literally years of rest, and likely zero significant pressure from other fishing craft to impact the local population, the past three voyages to the "Rock" certainly have confounded the traditional perspective that with the passage of time these areas are guaranteed to stack up with Wahoo. Regardless of today's fishing results, we had an enjoyable visit to Roca Partida that never fails to amaze us all with its stark beauty and almost unbelievable ability to attract huge amounts of oceanic life. The sights and sounds of this incredibly unique habitat are like none other.
That said, we didn't hang around long as our standards are abnormally high following the prior three days of fishing at Socorro. We are doing our best to maintain a balanced perspective but I freely admit that after railing trophy yellowfin tuna for three days at Isla Socorro, five to twenty pounders at Roca Partida just weren't going to do it for this group. With that in mind we continued the westerly trek towards Isla Clarion by mid day planning to target Wahoo and trophy yellowfin tomorrow and beyond.
