Royal Star Fish Report

No flowery description can obscure the reality of what San Benedicto offered in the way of yellowfin tuna or Wahoo action today as the entire island yielded a paltry three Wahoo for the effort. I can't really blame conditions, the weather, or anything else as the area around the island was simply devoid of apex predator life - including sharks of which we landed none. The good news is that regardless of the pathetic results on tuna the visit was well worth it as many photos were taken and we accomplished our real goal after dark.

In all honesty I wasn't blindsided or overwhelmed by the lack of game fish at "Smokey" in any way as more often than not yesterday's results reflected the significant trend for this island. Not that we haven't been surprised in the past, or made some phenomenal catches at the prehistoric looking inside island, we have. But, much more often than not, what we experienced yesterday in the way of fishing at San Benedicto was "normal" if I dare use such a term to describe the ocean.

So off to the next closest island we go with plans to check in at the naval base on Isla Socorro first thing in the morning then commence our fishing efforts immediately thereafter. With plenty of luck the ocean will be in a kind mood and allow us to get the ball rolling in the right direction.
