Royal Star Fish Report

Royal Star

An action packed first day at Isla Clarion with the outside island's spectacular beauty providing a backdrop to furious angling for both yellowfin tuna and wahoo that were ravenous, aggressive, and ready to give these anglers all they were worth. The island is literally corroded with yellowfin in the 15 - 40# class with plenty of indications that the bigger fish are around as well. Several yellowfin in the one hundred to one hundred fifty pound class were tagged during the non stop afternoon action but honestly between the wahoo and school fish occupying our time, we didn't have the chance to cover much ground. In addition, less than perfect sea conditions on the weather side of the island had a strong influence on our fishing efforts in the heavenly, flat calm lee side. With as many as five full days to prospect here at Clarion, and calm weather in the forecast, I am certain that the opportunity to thoroughly check all Clarion's productive zones is soon to come. The indications we saw yesterday have my optimism pegged as the island is inundated with incredible life and conditions have changed dramatically since our last visit to the zone outside six miles several weeks prior. There are definitely a few places that are a bit sharky but nowhere we fished was unworkable if we stayed on the move and made quick drifts. Between the incredible scenery, the tropical ocean brimming with life, the phenomenal show of dolphins and Humpback whales, a flat calm, island lee to work in, and the fantastic potential I see for big fish, we are presently living the dream we came for. By day's end tomorrow however, we will have a much better idea of the total picture. Look for our report with the details.
