Day one will not enter the history books as the greatest day of catching ever but what a magnificent day to be on the water. The day boasted the most beautiful weather and sea conditions imaginable with a crisp, brilliant atmosphere that made the sight of San Benedicto island with it's rugged, volcanic topography, profoundly beautiful.
The signs of giant yellowfin tuna were very encouraging with a widespread area producing a handful of trophies from one hundred sixty to two hundred two pounds, but only a fraction of what we encountered showed any interest in our offerings. As most of our efforts were focused on the outside, our fishing time expended before we had the opportunity to scour most of the traditionally productive areas around this island. With the indications of giant yellowfin around, heavenly fishing conditions, plentiful bait, and zero sign of sharks, we opted to give it a full day here at San Benedicto tomorrow before considering other options. Honestly, what we saw, combined with the quality of what we landed is just too tempting. As the fishing portion of the voyage is just beginning, time is on our side. We will see what tomorrow brings on the inside as such.
