Royal Star Fish Report

Royal Star

After the bruising we took adhering to the purist pursuit of trophy yellowfin yesterday, we were in no mood to maintain such exclusive standards today. Yes we lowered the bar considerably suffering through an entire day of nonstop action on yellowfin tuna in the 30 - 100# class with about forty in the sixty to ninety pound range. Needless to say we were ready for some action and today's opportunity fit the bill with every angler at the rail every stop thoroughly enjoying the experience as fish crashed up the wake, rods bent over double, and a beautiful grade of yellowfin tuna came over the rail. Believe me no one was disappointed with the "smaller" grade of yellowfin that on any average fall ten day voyage would be greeted with high fives and smiles. That was us today, high fives, smiles, and the satisfaction only a fisherman can relate to following a fine day of production.

So, we are mighty thankful for the opportunity to target these tuna today that were in an area not far from the zone that has been producing the trophy yellowfin during the past two weeks. Aside from a literal handful of tuna over one hundred fifty pounds for nine boats combined efforts today, the giants once again pulled a no show giving the fleet only a slight tease as the main body remains somewhere off the shallows. Scattered indications definitely point to the fish still being around, they are just making us pay a price and proving again that nothing good comes easy. At least not among us mortals.

With a good day of catching under our belts of course confidence has returned and we are ready to give the big fish another go tomorrow on our final full day of fishing. Of course we won't be driving by any spots of the "smaller" grade, but the main quarry will definitely be giants as we seek to end the voyage on a glorious note. With another day of beautiful working weather, aside from a little rain, ahead of us, the set up remains as good as one can hope for tomorrow. We will see what the fish gods decide.
