Royal Star Fish Report

Royal Star

Another day that didn't blow the doors off in the production department but satisfied the catching instinct with some fine action on big dorado and a smattering of wahoo. I am sorry to say that the yellowfin tuna again were a no go although we did see one small spot of bona fide cows in the right area that would not give us the time of day. So be it. We're (the fleet) up to about four days now of pitiful results on the yellowfin with a tremendous amount of time dedicated to the search in a wide stretch of ocean. Suffice to say the fish are down and some kind of significant change is definitely needed to make these fish move back into the shallows. The one condition we can put our finger on is a lack of current down here that in the past has certainly coincided with stretches of slow fishing. Who is to say however as there are likely a million other components, known and unknown, in the equation.

Fortunately in our case we have some very nice fishing for wahoo and big dorado to fall back on, and believe me, we are happy for it. So the search continues tomorrow in what we are hoping will be weather conditions that are decent for working offshore. The weather forecast is not as pretty as it has been over the past three days but our options are now rather clear as time in the lower regions is rapidly coming to an end. As such we will be gladly suffering through another day of fishing tomorrow in search of continuing morning action on wahoo and big dorado before heading out in search of tuna in the afternoon. We could definitely use a little luck here.
