Royal Star Fish Report

8-5-2007
Royal Star

We began our annual Pacific Edge five day voyage on a high note with good weather, a perfect load of mixed sardines and anchovies perfect for albacore fishing, and reports of good quantities of albacore offshore ready for the catching. The catching part of the equation was again easier said than done however as all the fish we saw late in the day showed zero interest in what we had to offer. Thus has been the pattern for the albacore this season and fortunately one day appears to have no bearing on what will happen the next. As such, we plan to dedicate at least our first full day to the albacore effort before considering our next move. On that note, our list of options does not include Isla Guadalupe yet, as the process of obtaining permits to fish the legendary outside island has not reached completion. It was prematurely reported last Saturday that we received proper authorization to visit Guadalupe from the Government of Mexico. The process does appear to be in it's final stages so all we can do is standby patiently as the wheels of bureaucracy turn. In the meantime, we have plenty of options to celebrate as the southern islands, and the offshore zones are all kicking out good scores of both albacore and exotics.
