We had a great day of catching beginning at the lower end of the ridge in the heart of what has been Dorado country for the past several months. True to the pattern, the Dorado did not disappoint making a prompt arrival ready to join some big yellowfin in the hatch while providing all our anglers with loads of fun. Also true to this year's pattern was the average size of the morning Dorado that was twenty to thirty pounds with some standouts even bigger. In our case the size average was greatly improved by the use of bigger mackerel, but regardless, the overall size average of the Dorado this season has been fantastic. I suppose I should also mention the "nuisance" fish mixed in the action as the Striped Marlin were prolific and eager to get into fray as the morning progressed. Although we never keep the marlin, and would really rather not even hook them, I have to admit that they do spice the action and add exceptional humor to the setting.

Following our morning of catching fun, we headed up the line stretching out our fishing time by working in a northerly direction. One more late afternoon/evening stop on the upper end of the ridge once again led to fantastic "catching" as the twelve to twenty two pound yellowfin were in the mood to bite and plentiful. Of course with our catch of trophy yellowfin in the hatch no one felt the need to burn up a bunch of tags on this size class tuna, but the action was great and ended the day on a satisfying note. Now the northward trek continues as we will be targeting yellowtail on the "beach for at least a half day tomorrow. As reported, we have plenty of fish in the hatch so other than a modest number of yellowtail, preferably of the larger size class, our expectations are at a very reasonable level. Other than a big, rolling north west ground swell, we have very good weather for our run up the line and a good weather forecast promises more of the same tomorrow.
