Royal Star Fish Report

Royal Star
The weather forecast was on the money with the entire fleet spending the majority of yesterday hanging on as stiff, Santa Ana winds whipped up a formidable sea state that posed no challenge for the boats, but made for very uncomfortable working conditions. In the case of looking offshore, we were shut down for the majority of the day by the ugly sea state that left us no options other than to continue working in easy until the wind backed off. Fortunately, again, we were all treated to another of the ocean's remarkable transformations as the wind began easing off in the afternoon ultimately coming down to a civil ten to twelve knots by day's end. All I can say is you would have to see it to believe that the same ocean, that was so ugly and angry only hours before, could be so tranquil and inviting in such a short amount of time.
As for the fishing report, we did manage to scratch up about thirty of the premium size class Dorado advertised in this region and spent a delightful evening at anchor on one of the ridge shallows. Honestly, the catching late in the day was far from good, but every angler was out at the rail enjoying the evening, soaking a few baits, catching an occasional fish, and sharing many laughs among good company. With good weather in the forecast tomorrow, we will try our hand in this zone one more time planning to work our way up the line at day's end. As the weather has now settled down, I suspect the fishing part of the report will be a little more robust tomorrow.
