Not much of a finish to report with a full day of looking offshore while making ground towards San Diego. By far the most encouraging sign was discovered in the morning, but at the distance we were from San Diego, we only had a couple of hours to dedicate to the effort. As such a few handfuls of Dorado were all we managed to scratch up before passing the remainder of our day prospecting in beautiful water for virtually no sign of life. The familiar story from the offshore zones beyond about one hundred fifty miles is once again reinforced, but that does not mean the effort is wasted or hardly worth it. This is just a fact of the past two or three months and as we have all witnessed, the ocean is capable of remarkable surprises, especially in these instances. So a day looking offshore is always worth the effort in our book and when combined with beautiful weather will always be the best option available to a true fisherman. Admittedly, it becomes a much better option when some catching is included in the fishing effort.
Tomorrow is the big day as our short trip season winds down with the final five day sponsored by 976-Tuna and the finest of charter masters, Larry Brown. With a fantastic group of anglers ready to give Guadalupe a final shot, we are planning to give the big island outside another attempt before considering options beyond.
