Royal Star Fish Report

It's safe of say we saved the trip with a morning of rip roaring yellowtail action that fit the bill in every way we hoped for. Beginning at just before eight a.m., the catching, and yes I mean catching as there was very little fishing being done, began with eight to fifteen hookups at all times on school size yellowtail in the twelve to twenty two pound class. When combined with ravenous waves of jumbo Bonita, the sheets and swarms of yellowtail were so ferocious they were actually jumping clear of the water at times devouring retrieved jigs and baits mere inches from the hull. Needless to say the first thirty minutes or so were pure pandemonium as twenty four anglers dream's came to fruition; their focus intent upon absorbing the pure glory of the moment. Jigs flying, gaffs waving, fish crashing everywhere while legions of free swimming yellowtail pursued any and everything that hit the water. I hope I am painting a clear enough picture. It was good, and thank god for it.
With enough yellowtail in the hatch to satisfy even the most dedicated anglers by eleven a.m., we spent the remainder of our day working a handful of the more obscure spots in this region attempting to scratch up a few trophy size yellowtail while avoiding yellows in the school size class. To a limited extent we were successful passing a beautiful afternoon in flat calm weather enjoying the scenic setting while catching a couple of handfuls of twenty five pound class yellowtail and releasing every other surface species available on this stretch of coast.

Our final day tomorrow will be spent prospecting offshore covering as much water as possible on our northerly heading towards home. Perfect, calm conditions are forecast to grace our effort tomorrow so the stage is set for a good day of looking.
