Royal Star
After speaking with Randy yesterday, it seems that the businessman?s hours of the ?beach? fishing for giant yellowfin have been traded for the classic night time action that is often associated with tuna fishing in the tropics. In fact, by Randy?s account the indications of tuna around the bank are very poor or non-existent in the daytime. Again this is not uncommon at tropical destinations such as Hurricane bank, Clipperton, or the Revillagigedo islands, and if nothing else, bodes very well for our fleet when competing with commercial vessels targeting tuna in the same areas.
For those anglers with nocturnal tendencies, legendary night bites on giant yellowfin are right up your alley. For everyone else, don?t worry; after a couple of days to reset the internal clock, you will be out there among the best of them getting your share. Of course there are a few huge advantages in night fishing such as cooler temperatures, battles with giant yellowfin of shorter durations, and the chance that you will be the lucky angler to hook that one in a thousand Kamikaze tuna that charges the boat. In fact, night time action on giant yellowfin has an incredibly electric flavor that sets it apart from every other type of fishing we do. I would even venture that participation in a ripper night bite of giant yellowfin is somewhat of a requirement to stand among the ranks of true long range big tuna anglers; something like an initiation ritual one must survive to prove their mettle. Needless to say, everyone angler on board Royal Star this voyage is earning his/her badge.
