Royal Star Fish Report

2-3-2006
Royal Star

As Captain Toussaint experiences trouble with the satellite uplink at sea, I have been summoned to keep you all informed as to the progress of the present seventeen day voyage on Royal Star. After speaking with Randy about one hour ago, I continue to be amazed by the action on giant yellowfin that persists, and persists, and persists. The boys arrived at Hurricane bank on the morning of the February 1st as vessel number three, sitting on the outskirts with hopes of picking off a few stragglers while enduring the sight of two other vessels in prime position cleaning up on the action. To some degree this was accurate as the two big rigs hammered the cows and Royal Star had slower action. Slower action in this case however meant a meager nineteen yellowfin over two hundred pounds in two days in addition to another approximate forty in the one hundred to one hundred seventy pound class that were released. Unbelievable! This was the ?slower? action. On any day, in any other year, any one of us long range operators would just about give our right arm to experience such fishing. This of course is the 2005 ? 2006 fall/winter season however so reports of such fishing are old hat; about a one on the adrenaline scale of one to ten; unless of course, you are there.

I will keep you all informed as to the current trip?s progress at least every other day or when I receive updates from Randy. In the meantime I do want to mention that our upcoming Revilla Gigedo tagging voyage, which has been obviously overshadowed by the incredible action on giant yellowfin over the past several months, has had a few spots open up as several anglers have dropped off for a variety of reasons. In light of the incredible costal action, as well as the action at Hurricane bank, we have definite plans to do a little fishing for the hatch before entering the famous reserve and commencing our tagging activities. If any of you are interested in being among the first group of anglers to legally fish the Revilla Gigedo islands since 2003, promote research of yellowfin tuna and wahoo in the reserve, as well as take a few shots at giant yellowfin on the way down, give us a call. The trip departs San Diego on February 15th and returns to Cabo San Lucas on March 1.
