Royal Star Fish Report

I hate to say it but the epic weather, so crucial to our success in this area, slipped away following the one day, brief respite, setting forth another challenging afternoon of trophy yellowfin fishing. Fortunately, Captain Toussaint did his leg work in the morning locating the best area to focus our afternoon efforts and pick off one school of trophies that yielded three over two and another eight or nine in the one hundred seventy to one hundred ninety five pound class.

Perhaps our fishing is beginning to revert back to normal, where an afternoon such as yesterday will again be recognized as a significant success? Perhaps the time has arrived when we will have to go back to fishing for these tuna instead of just catching? Who knows? At present two things are certain: water temperatures are dropping daily, and the schools of trophy yellowfin, that believe me are still here, are beginning to act differently. They have become much more cagey and at most times of the day very reluctant to bite. With four more days on the grounds and help on the way in the form of a couple of code boats on their way down, we (the long range fleet) will likely be here to see how things play out. As this fishing since October 2005 has defied all the rules, rewrote the history books, and broken every record I am far from ready to write this zone off and head elsewhere. In fact, using recent history as a measure, and the quantity of fish still around, it would be a real surprise to me to see this fish vanish without at least one more stretch of noteworthy action.

We are presently heading down the line after topping off our bait supply and it appears that mother nature might just hand us another break in the weather over the next couple of days. We will see if we can put both the weather and our bait to good use and of course, keep you posted...
