Royal Star Fish Report

Royal Star

As the final morning of offshore fishing progressed into afternoon it became more and more apparent that this was another fishing expedition that focused exclusively on the fishing; not the catching. We did manage to scratch up a few handfuls of dorado and a small yellowfin tuna but it was a pathetically slow day of offshore fishing to say the least. Fortunately the weather was fine and the slow fishing today in no way dampened the festive mood of this group that was still on cloud nine following yesterday's phenomenal yellowtail action. In fact, as the day wore on the general mood, perhaps fueled by spirits, seemed to liven and the stories of big ones that escaped, bigger ones that didn't, and all our other magnificent accomplishments became the history of legends. For Randy and I it was a genuine pleasure observing fishermen being fishermen as this is number one reason most individuals venture a long range trip. Sure, it is about the catching, but there is much more to a fishing trip that just being at the rail pulling on a slew of fish. The scenery, the camaraderie, the company of like individuals who share the same passion for fishing that we do, and time on the water away from rigors of every day life all combine in a rich, unforgettable experience. It is a gift being out here at times like these and I would venture that every angler on board Royal Star at present agrees.

Now it is on to the next voyage that departs today with Captain "always get's 'em" Toussaint at the helm. Although prospects down the line look good Randy has his work cut out for him as the set up is far from easy. The one certainty is that this group of anglers could not be in better hands as no finer fisherman exists than Randy. These are the situations when the exceptional operators, and true fishermen, prove their mettle and in this capacity Captain Toussaint can not be outdone. Look for Randy's reports to continue tomorrow as we depart on our annual Last Chance Bait and Tackle five day voyage today.
