Royal Star
Well today was certainly different in that we actually dealt with the first day of sloppy weather since our arrival here in Panama two months prior. No big seas, victory at sea, or perfect storm conditions, just a breezy, choppy sea state that more than anything made the task of locating and remaining with the dolphin schools rather challenging. The good news is that the sign of fish we encountered today with the help of our "code boats" was absolutely incredible rating by far the best we have seen in all our Panama trips to date. There were times when literally thousands of tuna from 50 - 150 pounds and better were leisurely cruising along passing under and around the boat while we tried our very best to entice them with our offerings. The difficult part of the story is that today the fish were not in a biting mood with about one in a thousand showing interest while their buddies continued on their way obviously motivated by something other than the pursuit of food. We managed to put a modest number in the 40 - 90# class aboard but in relation to what we were all seeing we were surprised that we did not do much better. As we are just beginning our voyage, we are in the perfect position to take advantage of whatever opportunities arise and needless to say we are going to give this area another go tomorrow and hope the breeze gives us a break. As the fish bit very well two days prior, we are hoping first that they will stick around a few more days but more importantly that they will go back on the bite before too long.
