This refreshing day of yellowtail fishing beautifully demonstrated that it doesn't necessarily take a huge catch of fish to make a good day. Not that we didn't do some catching: we did, but the pace was relaxed, the camaraderie was fantastic, the weather and scenery were beautiful, and the action was spread throughout our adept group of anglers. It just proves that on some occasions it can be just as much, if not more, fun to fish hard and use some finesse to get bit rather than crazy, wide open action. Our fishing today was characterized by quick hits and sporadic action as roaming groups of 18 - 35# yellowtail ambushed our baits and well placed surface and yo-yo irons. The action lasted right to the end when the majority of our yellowtail desires were thoroughly satisfied and we were ready to head out on the offshore grounds for a final day of albacore and bluefin angling. With a favorable weather forecast and a fine catch resting in our RSW tanks, we are sticking our necks out a bit tomorrow leaving the beaten path in search of what we hope will be a new body of fish to work on.
