Excel returned to Fisherman's Landing November 22, 2011 after an eleven-day Team Hoo trip to the Southern Banks and Cedros Island.
Will Smith of South Lake Tahoe got the only cow tuna at 211 pounds, but did not enter the jackpot. He fished a 9/0 Eagle Claw hook, 130-pound Trilene line, Jerry Brown Spectra, a Penn 30 reel, and a Calstar 760 M rod.
Ken Bell of Camarillo got first place with a 186.8-pound tuna. Ken fished a back-hooked mackerel on an 8/0 Eagle Claw hook, a short topshot of 130 Big Game line, 130-pound Jerry Brown Spectra, a 30 VSW reel, and a Calstar 7455 XH rod.
John Dillen of Rancho Santa Fe got second with a 175.7-pound yellowfin. He fished a 9/0 Eagle Claw hook, 130-pound Seaguar fluorocarbon, a Penn 50 W reel, and a Seeker 6455 rod.
Bill Cashman of Glendora got third with a 148-pound tuna.
"We had those bigger tuna blowing up all around the boat," angler Dan Hall of Hermosa Beach said, "but when we got a few on the deck, they were plugged with squid. It was tough to get them to bite. We had phenomenal yellowtail fishing at Cedros. They bit anything and everything."
