Couple days ago we departed on our annual Tiburon 4 day voyage with quality in mind. Unfortunately there’s been a shortage of tagable gamefish around so the fleet has been left with straight small meaning tiny fish to catch. With this boat’s reputation and my mindset we will not be targeting tiny tuna and if we do manage to catch one, he will be set free to live another day. That being said for this trip our goal was to relocate the bio mass of bluefin tuna. Just a handful of small schools have been seen over the last 2 weeks so we knew this was gonna be a search party.

Our first night didn’t feel like we were centralized in anything. Lots of driving around either seeing nothing or a single fish on our machines. Luckily we stumbled across one lonely school that produced six 25-40 pounders bluefin to get our trip started off. As far as our next day we covered almost 50 miles of water seeing once again scattered fish everyone until we finally found the mother load we were waiting for. Flat-spots, chippers, pushers you name it, it was all there. 

With this sign came surprisingly some very fun daytime fishing both on the troll and fly line baits. In total we picked up our daily limits and a bonus 5 small yellowfin for a nice poke lunch. Most of this fish weighed anywhere from 15-35 pounds with a handful bigger and one kite fish around 110#. As far as night time fishing we didn’t see nearly the sign we did during the daylight hours. Some of this has to do with our moon phase obviously but the fish were also bigger. A handful of scattered out schools added another 24 nice fish to the list this time weighing 40-80 pounds. Tomorrow we will be trophy hunting in another new area.
