Cod Fishes
6-2-2026
Duke Ekstrom
Today we began our morning off with some back to the basics type fishing. Sliding sinkers, yo-yo jigs, flyline baits, pretty much whatever you wanted to fish was a chance to catch something. The main objective here was for everyone to get some bites and fish at their leisure. With this night time bluefin fishing being so fast paced and not a guarantee we wanted to ensure everyone on board got a bite on their own time but something tasty eating. Lots of sheep head, whitefish, Johnny bass and a bonus yellowtail lead to a fantastic morning of fishing.
Around midmorning we pulled our anchor due to the current changing and the fact we haven’t put any red fish in the hold yet. So off we went out to our honey holes and once again we produced a fine catch of Vermillion’s and big Boccaccio. Once securing our quota on those we focused the rest of the trip on gamefish. This is the one aspect we just short on. With very little surface showing both tuna and yellowtail we were never able to locate anything that produced any bites. But overall another fantastic trip aboard the Royal Star.
Tomorrow we will depart for 3 days with Jay Maeda and his hungry group of anglers.
