Day and Night

A morning sojourn to the south provided the perfect respite for anglers to catch up on their rest sacrificed again through the night in pursuit of the crafty bluefin. By late morning, back on the grounds and feeling fine, some nice schools were located setting up a full afternoon of actual old style daytime action. Hitting spots, sardines flying three or four impressive showings energized anglers made believers by a handful of bites on the flyline gear. Landing them was a different story. Big and mean the bluefin definitely won the battle of odds but we came out of it with some fine stories, a couple of handfuls of chances, and just shy of a handful of trophies to show for the daytime effort. Close to home the final evening lasted into the early morning and yielded another round of beauties in the RSW tank to end the voyage on a high note. Many thanks to Chris Yamada and CalStar rods for great time grinding out a catch in nice conditions. And of course huge thanks to a spectacular group of anglers who put in the time earning every fish through pure grit and determination. Final voyage photos feature Chris, who was absolutely on fire this voyage, with a nice one coming over the rail and an action shot of the moment of truth when a big beauty was gaffed by the boys on deck. Look for reports and images to continue as Captain Roy Rose takes the helm tomorrow on the annual Island Tackle four day run.
