Worked up all day incorporating a mackerel making effort into the inevitable need to gain altitude. While the wind fitted and snorted on the outside all enjoyed the flat calm and stunning scenery up close and personal while we passed along the Southern Baja coast. The bait making mission sadly ended in a bust. But we caught darn near everything else one can imagine as we probed suspected balls of bait just beyond the surf. On such occasions a little humor goes a long way. In today's case we had a lot. Good times.
In the end the bonus of having a few mackerel was only that. Plenty of trusty sardines on board are an insurance policy to take to the bank. The day ended on a strong note when we tucked into to one of my favorite coastal zones targeting bass for a lunch and local variety. The effort was successful breaking up a long afternoon of running in the perfect way. Opting for a five hour respite in the lee of an island before heading offshore tomorrow a serene slumber was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Soon to change we'll be hard at it offshore tomorrow and beyond. Photo today features Royal Star angler Dave Clinkscales with a fine yellow from below.
