Fish Report for 8-28-2020

Up and over

Though there was plenty of movement, we clawed north against a formidable current. The spacing between the seas and swell were ideal for Royal Star. Up and over, down and around - much better that down and through, allowed us to make cruising speed and squeeze in a little fishing time on our way north. Again the delicious, ever pleasing red rock cod were the quarry delighting anglers with their spirited tussles and epic colors. Ironically, with a beautiful catch of yellowtail already in the RSW tanks, our rock cod rigs were ransacked by voracious, completely unexpected, yellowtail numerous times revealing perhaps a whole new area of fish available along the coast. I’m sure we’ll find out later on.
In closing our most sincere gratitude to the annual Myers/Nakamura charter group now hosting the honor of sailing in our good friend Mike “Buford” Bontrager’s remembrance. Thank you all for your confidence in Royal Star during these unprecedented times. Final voyage photo honors again go to our friend and long time Royal Star angler Ron Hobson who picked off this beautiful trophy yellowtail in the evening hour alongside the rugged Baja coastline.
