FLASH — Royal Star has spent the morning fishing on cows off the coast of southern Baja. The catch as of noon included eight big tuna, with four under 200 pounds and four above the double century mark.
Two of the Star’s big tuna were weighed aboard at over 300 pounds! Captain Randy Toussaint and second skipper Brian Sims tallied the super cows at 378 pounds for Dennis Williams (on 100-pound line!) and 308 for Tom Kurata, weighed on the boat’s expensive and highly accurate scales.
Butch Kuflack has a 271-pounder, and Peter Lupo bagged a 227-pound yellowfin. Owner-skipper Tim Ekstrom talked with the boat and told Bill Roecker that the fish are near their usual fall feeding grounds. The boat made a two and a half-hour drift, and Ekstrom characterized the bite as “…a steady pick. All the fish caught were on sardines, he said.
